Writing Prompt - "Lost and Alone"

Lost and alone - that's how she felt despite the fact that she was surrounded by people. She took the customer's money, gave them their coffee, took the next customer's order, and so on. Auto-pilot. Forcing a smile.

"Keep it or not? Marriage - absolutely not. Let mom and dad send me away for nine months? Joy. I'm an embarassment. Carry it for 9 months, then give it to a stranger? Spend the rest of my life wondering where it is and what it's doing? Get rid of it and feel guilty the rest of my life?"

"I agree we're not ready for marriage. I hate your parents for making you feel like an embarassment. I'm not crazy about any of the options honestly", Phillip had said.

"Thanks for the help", she had said and stormed off.

Any of the above would hurt someone. In the end it was her body, her choice, her that had to deal with the consequences of her decision every day for the rest of her life. Yes, she was very much lost and alone.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this or any other writing prompt I post. Tell me what you think of the content or any technical aspects. If you had to sit down right now and write about the words "lost and alone", what would you write about?

I'VE GOTTA BE THE ONE TO TURN AWAY

I promise (pinky promise even!) that after this post we will move on to aspects of Brandy that are brighter.  I do not want anyone to think that Brandy's story is about her wallowing in her pain.  Far from it.  Brandy's story is about her breaking free of her pain.  Acknowledging it but moving on.  Refusing to allow it to continue to control her.  Brandy's story is about freedom.  Freedom to be who she is.  We will focus on that after today.  However . . .

I must share this song because it is part of what Brandy wants to say to Jeff.  It's what she feels but, at the beginning of the story, has not fully acknowledged and has not even begun to express to him.

I didn't know who Porcupine Tree was a couple of years ago but now they are a favorite.  I may share many of their songs with you. Here is the first - "Remember Me Lover".  Please pay attention to both the music and the lyrics.  I have posted the lyrics below the video.  They are an accurate reflection of Brandy's anger with Jeff.  Enjoy.

I didn't want to feel like a slave to your mood swings, and i'm not saying anything I wouldn't say behind your back.

And all this shit could have happen to anyone, all that matters now is how you're going to pick it up, to throw it back.

It's so hard to get along, I always know what you're going to say.

And this too, I hated you, I wish you learn to keep your mouth shut.

I never meant to start anything that I couldn't finish, now I've gotta be the one to turn away, it's time to react.

I meant every word that I said, yeah I really did.

But you gotta understand that I was sleeping then, so relax.

I walked away, now remember me lover

I told you lies, now remember me lover

I took your money, remember me lover

I ruined you life, now remember me lover

It's so hard to get along, I always know what you're going to say.

And this too, I hated you, I wish you learn to keep your mouth shut.

I've been through this with you about a hundred times.

Agree to disagree, start again with our lives.

And every single morning I wake up and you're still there, but tomorrow you will be alone and that is all you deserve.
