Yeah, I know.  I said I hate New Year’s resolution.  And I do.  But . . . I also said that I need to constantly look at myself and my life and evaluate what changes I need to make.  And in order to be a successful writer and blogger I need to do this on an annual basis as well.  So I have put down some resolutions/goals/areas for improvement in 2013 and put them below. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

Blog 3 days a week in January and then every day starting February 1

At least one of those entries will relate to the book I’m writing. I love blogging. I love reading. I love doing book reviews. But I have become so wrapped up in these things lately that my writing has suffered. So how do I continue doing all of those things and not let my writing suffer? I combine the two. I talk to you about my book, my characters. I share songs or quotes or pictures that remind me of them. I ask your thoughts on ideas.

Constantly improve on my writing skills, doing everything I can to produce the highest-quality book that I can.

Constantly improve the appearance and content of my blog so that readers and writers alike find something here that they like and enjoy reading.

Engage with you, my lovely readers, more. I will find ways to create conversation on my blog. Some of that will happen because of the 3 items above. I will have to come up with some other ways of doing this as well.

Well, there it is. A list of my writing/blogging resolutions for 2013. Before leaving you - a brief, personal note.

I decided to take a step into this world of writing just a few months ago. It's been a wonderful experience full of supportive people who were strangers this time last year. Thank you to my new, writing friends. I have found all of you to be encouraging, illuminating and unselfish. I truly appreciate it. Because of you, something I feared has been a very nice experience. May 2013 continue in this direction!

I wish you and yours an awesome 2013!

  1. Sonia - good post. It is very hard to find time to write so I am going to limit my online activities. You conbining the two is a great idea. Best of luck in 2013.

  3. Sonia, you have a good plan.
Question: will you post before working on your novel each time, or post after a writing session? I guess posting before will warm you up and let your direction for the day arise. After a writing session, you may be excited by your work and want to share it. Maybe...mix it up.
You asked for daily posting ideas – a word for the day can be interesting and a never-ending source of material. Teach me something, please.
I'd love to share my resolution with you. "Hop" on over: http://vagilantes.com/
Come on, 2013, we're ready for ya!

  4. Hi Julie! Good question about when I will post about what I write. I probably will mix it up a bit. Doing it before I write may help me think through ideas I have. As you said, if I'm excited about something I wrote then I may post something to share after. I like the word of the day idea. I'll think about that one! I also love art and have thought of incorporating that somehow. The possibilities are endless I guess! Thanks so much for stopping by. I will check out your resolutions right now!

  7. Hi Sonia, I think your list of resolutions is a good one and very doable. I like your idea of combining two different avenues of writing, the blog and the novel. Writing is writing so, if improving your skills is a priority and the way to do it is to write consistently, seems like you have a great plan. I joined your site and would appreciate if you could do the same for me. I'm trying to break 100 members. It's good for my platform. Thanks. http://www.amemorabletimeofmylife.blogspot.com.

  9. You are so brave to commit to blogging every day in February - I definitely could not do that. And to share more of your writing on your blog!! I am still too private about my projects to do that. One thing I've learned about myself is that if I talk about my story instead of writing it down...I lose some of the momentum or the pressure. I have learned I have to let it build up inside of me and spill on to the page. But I have been sharing a bit of my writing on a separate page on my blog. I was hoping to get feedback but haven't gotten a lot yet. We'll see what happens in 2013! Good luck!

  10. Hi Sonia,

Posting every day is so ambitious! I can barely make one a week, but I'm trying to do more. I like that you post reviews of books on your site. I'm hoping to do more of that myself in the near future. I like the idea that you will be working on your book as you blog. Can't wait to see more.

I'd love it if you'd like to visit my blog during the blog hop:
