"Paperman" from Disney
nominated for an Oscar for Animated Short Film
"Paperman" is a short film from Disney that is nominated for an Oscar this year.
I love this film! It's sweet, simple and romantic. It also utilizes some new technology that allows a combination of hand-drawn animation and computer-generated imaging.
The software used for this particular film is called Meander. The film is directed by John Kahrs, formerly of Pixar, who says that this technology was developed because of a missing quality with computer-generated animation. There is a kind of expression that comes through in a hand-drawn line that you just don't get with a "drawing" created by a computer. This software was created in-house to combine the best of both worlds. The result in this film is charming.
